Cross-Cutting Research AIMES Young Scientist Network—an international postdoctoral network to foster collaborations among early-career scientists on integrative research to better understand the role of humans in perturbing biogeochemistry and climate. This community network within the international Analysis, Integration and Modeling the Earth System project is sponsored by NCAR, NSF, and the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). CEDAR Community at NCAR—Coupling, Energetics and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions is a focused Global Change program sponsored by the National Science Foundation to enhance the capability of ground-based instruments to measure the upper atmosphere and to coordinate instrument and model data for the benefit of the scientific community Community Building Program—works with university partners to develop and engage a diverse workforce in the atmospheric and related sciences through the Diversity Summit, Planning for Seven Generations Conference, UCAR Africa Initiative, and SOARS. Ground-Based GPS for Meteorology—Guided by a consortium of research institutions using GPS satellites for precise surveying and other applications, the program offers support to investigators, including equipment, training, logistics, field support, technical support, data analysis and archiving. Portable GPS equipment and emerging worldwide GPS networks are being used for earthquake, volcano, polar ice dynamics, weather and climate research. Junior Faculty Forum on Future Scientific Directions—this annual meeting brings together junior faculty and members of NCAR's Early Career Scientist Assembly to discuss selected topics in the geosciences; open to nontenured faculty at U.S. universities with preference given to those within five years of their first professorial academic appointment NCAR Models, by Topic—community models are supported by collaborators from multiple agencies and have full-featured Web sites where source code may be downloaded; smaller models are also available for download or by contacting their research teams NCAR's Geophysical Statistics Project—encourages the application and further development of statistical analysis to the problems faced in the Earth sciences RISA-NCAR Collaboration—a project hosted by NCAR's Institute for the Study of Society and Environment to encourage collaboration between NCAR researchers and participants in NOAA's Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessment Program. SuomiNet—a network of GPS receivers at universities and other locations providing real-time atmospheric precipitable water vapor measurements and other geodetic and meteorological information UCAR Data Management Working Group—a place to share ideas, ask questions, search for answers, and investigate new technologies; uses Swiki technology to create a collaborative workspace UCAR Governance, Membership, and Affiliation—UCAR Members and Affiliates, through the Board of Trustees and Members? Committees, govern corporate activities and determine the overall direction of science and service to the community
Collaborative Education & Training COMET Outreach Program—to improve local forecast and warning services; funds collaborative projects between National Weather Service offices and universities. These generally lead to the adoption of a new forecast technique, an increased understanding of local meteorology, and/or preparation of joint papers and workshops. COSMIC Aware Program—fosters collaboration between students and professionals in the atmospheric sciences and related fields in the United States and East Asia GLOBE Program - Global Learning & Observations to Benefit the Environment—works with students, teachers, and scientists worldwide to gather data for Earth science research National Science Digital Library: Participate in NSDL—avenues for participation include contributing resources, using NSDL technology, and participating in events organized by this NSF-sponsored digital library, which provides access to educational resources for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education Unidata Community Interaction—Unidata is a diverse community of education and research institutions vested in the common goal of sharing data, tools to access the data, software tools to use and visualize the data, and resources
Tools to Facilitate Collaboration Access Grid—information about NCAR conferencing facilities via this technology and about the growing Access Grid Community UCAR Wiki—a collaborative tool where users can create, edit, or link to pages on the Web, exchange files, and share their work with unrestricted or restricted access
